Jane and Andrew were living in California, but they planned an intimate backyard wedding in Jane’s hometown of Sturbridge, Massachusetts. They chose to hold their ceremony at the town common in a gazebo – which worked perfectly! They added some fresh flowers for a little bit of color, and a rug at the alter.
Following the ceremony, they held their reception in Jane’s father’s backyard, which was located close by. Surrounded by close family and friends, they were married by Jane’s sister who officiated. The couple also wrote their own emotional vows and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. It was equal parts fun and uplifting, but it was also romantic and incredibly personal. The trust, love, and connection between Jane and Andrew was an honor to witness and capture on camera!
I love a big party for a wedding for a lot of reasons, but I truly hope that these intimate weddings are here to stay. If the idea of being the center of attention, having to deal with a million details, or managing a huge guest list doesn’t appeal to you – then don’t feel like you have to go that direction. The beauty of the last year and a half is that it’s given couples permission to make their weddings exactly what they want and nothing else.
So, if a big-to-do isn’t your thing, keep it to the 10-20 people closest to you, or keep it to just the two of you! A small wedding or elopement allows for maximum flexibility in every aspect of your wedding day – and I am completely here for it!
No matter the size of your wedding, your special day is bound to be filled with so many special moments that you will want to cherish for years to come. It is always an honor for me to be able to capture those moments and document them with beautiful photos that will last a lifetime. If you are planning a Massachusetts wedding, make sure to drop me a note. I can’t wait to hear all about your plans for your big day!
