Shelby and Ryan’s destination wedding at Peak n’ Peek Resort was such a pleasure to shoot. I LOVE to travel. My passport is always current and I am pre-check approved so name the place and I AM THERE. Shelby and Ryan’s wedding was my first time getting on a plane to photograph a wedding. I know that there are some questions regarding having a photographer travel to your wedding. Let me answer some of the main questions:
1) What are your travel fees?
The couple covers my airfare, hotel (2 nights for most weddings) and travel to/from airport (either rental car or uber). I always book my own travel arrangements, but I let the couple know an average cost for me to get from my home to their location and the average cost of hotels in the area, then when I go to make my arrangements, I let them know the exact cost and that gets added on to their invoice.
2) What happens if you’re delayed?
When I travel for sessions, I always book the earliest possible flight the day BEFORE the event begins, just in case there are delays. Yes. that does mean getting up sometimes at 3 in the morning for a 6am flight, but it puts my mind at ease knowing that I have time to get to my location in case things go sideways. For international weddings, it’s a little different, I plan to arrive 2 days prior to the event and then plan to leave the day after. I also live between three major airports, so I have a lot of flexibility to still manage to get a flight if something gets canceled.
3) What is the benefit of hiring a photographer that has to travel?
In some cases, having a photographer fly out for your wedding could cost less or the same as hiring someone who is local to the area. On the other hand, it could also cost more. The most important question to ask yourself is: can you imagine having anyone else there to capture your memories? If you can’t, then know that I am always willing to come to you!
My fiancé (at the time) and I were so skeptical on what type of photographer to select. I did my research and kept searching and searching. Then I found Melissa. I’m not really sure exactly how I found her but boy were we happy we did! I picked Melissa as my photographer because of her work that I saw. She was so genuine with her work and that’s what I wanted for my wedding day. Melissa communicated with me very frequently throughout the few months leading up to the big day. We even had a lengthy phone call, she asked me what I expected on my wedding day and what my biggest fears were. I’ve felt connected to her ever since!
My experience working with Melissa on my wedding day was phenomenal, and my husband says the same. He was very wary about having a photographer from out of town shoot our wedding. He was worried…”will she show up?” “What if she’s not on time” and none of those worries were real life. On our wedding day, Melissa was not only on time, but she was EARLY. She came to speak to me about how the day was going to go and what her plan was to get everything accomplished. She was extremely sweet and accommodating! We received so many compliments on how involved she was with shooting photos, but to be completely honest, most of the time I didn’t even know where she was! I was too busy enjoying myself and I fully trusted that she was fulfilling her duty as our photographer.
If you have been wanting to work with me but have been worried about the logistics of hiring a photographer from out of state, get in touch! I am always more than happy to travel and would be absolutely honored to work with you and shoot your dream wedding, no matter where in the world you are!
