Sometimes, a love story takes its time. Sometimes it takes twists and turns, sends you on detours, makes you lose your way a few times. But when it’s true, when it’s real, it will find you, eventually.
Kim and Jamie found each other later in life. When their children were older, when their life paths had sent them in different directions. They found each other 12 years ago. They are known as a pair. Their names are said together. Their hearts have been committed to one another for a long time. So when they decided last fall that they wanted to get married, we were thrilled.
I say we because Kim happens to be my father. And when he and Jamie asked me if I would photograph their wedding, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I knew that I wanted to be able to enjoy their wedding and and so I asked my friend Lea Jones to come and shoot with me so I could be as present as possible.
Jamie and Kim’s primary focus is on their family, their children and grandchildren and they incorporated us into every aspect of their day. To be able to celebrate with them, and to be able to witness their love, their intention for not just one another, but each other’s families was truly a gift. On this day they not only committed to one another, we, as their families, committed to each other as well. I gained an incredible step-mother along with 2 new brothers and a new sister-in-law. Our cups overflow with happiness and joy for them and for each other as well. We finally are what we were always meant to be: family.
